Drought
Happiness has been gone
For too many months
Left my mouth parched
And my emotions scorched
Loathing, I wake each morning
Wondering how much longer
I will need to wander
Through these crumbling streets
And people are dust storms
Whirling around me
Filling the air with dirt and lies
And they know
Happiness has been gone
For too many months
I detest these endless horizons
Barren and fractured
I find myself trying to remember
What love tasted like
These days my mouth is parched
And emotions scorched
So easy for hatred to roll in
Settle in the wrinkles around my eyes
Get wedged under these nails
Skin cracks under the heat
And I find I don’t know
What disgusts me more
You or me
For when hatred rolls in
You find you really have nothing
Empty and barren
With pain blistering your feet
Sorrow collecting in palms
Lost in a world broken and fractured
Holding nothing but a thirsty heart
A parched mouth and scorched emotions
For happiness has been gone
For too many months
