I know it will taste good in the end

Whispers carry in the evening
And they are humming in my ears
And upon my tongue
Giggle and a smile
I ponder where this gossip will get me
Flick of my tongue against my teeth
I know it will taste good in the end
Flex these fingers, perk up these ears
I will listen, listen, listen
Gathering up these whispers
Pluck them from the air
Collect them in my back pocket
Fold them neatly to preserve the tales
For this evening the whispers are thick
And my stomach is rumbling for attention
Tingling at the back of the neck
Nibble at my fingertips
I know it will taste good in the end
Secrets are sweetest in the dawn
Scandal thick before dusk
And either way I will be smiling
Sometimes the predators are the quietest
And the prey the cockiest
So I will sit back this evening
And I will listen, listen, listen
I know it will taste good in the end
