Horizon
She had told me
All she wanted to be was a mother
I was 20-something, fresh out of college
And I didn’t understand
Her choice
So I ran away
To explore the horizon
While she got married
And had her family
All with her wild blonde hair
And big eyes full of wonder
I remember when I
Decided to be a mother
The fear of not being able to chase after the sun
But, I understood now
What she had been saying
Whenever my son smiled at me
I realized all I needed to be was his mother
The horizon would still be there tomorrow
